Glam Punk
Guided by neon, into a back alley. The pungent smell of rubbing alcohol and sweat hits your face as you enter. Loud rock music drowns out the everlasting buzz in the air. In spaces like this, I find myself diving into almost ritualistic subcultures. The art of tattooing has created this following of people who search to be different and stand out. In the beginning, it was groups on the fringes of society who got tattooed. As it gets more popular there are more variations in the people, yet I believe everyone still feels this desire to go against the grain. In this piece, I used metal and mixed media to create the feeling of empowerment people receive who choose to say ‘fuck you’ to society.
